ACNE IS NORMAL
I remember when I first started sharing my skin journey on Instagram I was amazed to see how many people were going through the same struggles as me. You always think you’re alone with your insecurities right? You look around and no one deals with the same things. None of my friends have skin issues. Everyone around me has nice, perfect, and clear skin no matter what they do and here I am. Worrying about if I sleep in the wrong position or eat the wrong thing, my skin will break out. I always felt like it was something only I was dealing with and so I felt like I needed to hide it and not let anyone see it. It was something I felt ashamed of and like it wasn’t normal for a 23 year old grown woman to deal with something that is looked at as a puberty issue.
"IT WASN'T NORMAL FOR A 23 YEAR OLD GROWN WOMAN TO DEAL WITH SOMETHING THAT IS LOOK AT AS A PUBERTY ISSUE"
It was only through opening up about my acne struggles that I realized that it’s such a common thing that just no one really talks about.
About 80% of people have dealt or will deal with acne at some point in their life
and so it’s just crazy to me that there’s still so much shame around it and people being judged for it. No wonder people with acne think they’re weird and gross when they turn on the TV or go online and no one looks like them even though it’s SO COMMON.
Acne is normal. It’s not gross or weird or something to be embarrassed about. We attach so much of our worth to things outside of ourselves, how we look, who we’re with, how people react to us and I just think if we took all of that focus and energy we put out trying to fit a norm and to please other people, we would feel so much better about ourselves and be able to lift others up along the way.
