If you've never heard of Licorice Root Extract, it's (as you would expect) the root of the licorice plant. Literally, the stuff that candy is made out of. Well, technically actual licorice candy contains very little real licorice, but you get the point.
This plant has been used for so many years on things like respiratory issues, PCOS symptoms, and sores. But one thing that tons of people have found it to be good for is acne prone skin and dark spots.

Alright, let's break it down for you, because you're probably wondering how this ingredient that you have likely never heard of is this powerful.
GLABRIDIN
This, is an anti-oxidant and a tyrosinase inhibitor. Wow, lot's of big words, I know. Basically tyrosinase is this thing in your skin that makes melanin or the all-despised dark spots. So basically, Glabridin goes in, stops that tyrosinase from working (hence "inhibitor") and slows down or even stop the production of new dark spots, scars or hyperpigmentation. This means gently lightening those dark spots and keeping them from getting worse.
LICOCHALCONE
