The One Piece of Advice That Will Improve Your Confidence With Acne

Today, the day I wrote this article, I fell back into bad habits. I’ve been 14 months clean of negative thoughts about my acne. I used my acne medication last night, my last few pumps of my Aveeno sensitive skin face wash before bed, and every morning I wake up hoping that my skin will be drastically different. This morning, I woke up oh-so disappointed in what I saw. I saw the same thing I see everyday; an uneven skin tone and a Brady Bunch of embedded pimples to match.

Today for the first time in 14 months, I lost hope in my face ever getting better.

You see, I accepted my skin for what it was, but in the back of my mind I always EXPECTED it to get better. Today just felt like the day that marked a decade of waiting on my skin to clear up. I thought to myself, “Is this going to last forever? Is this who I am? Because if this is who I’m going to be for the rest of my life I want a refund!”

But I snapped myself out of it. Which is what we all have to do often to remind ourselves of what’s most important: The beauty within that you can to share with the world. How lucky are those with acne? To have the gift of challenge placed on them to force them to grow. That’s such a beautiful thing.

I know you’re thinking, “How is that a beautiful thing?". It’s beautiful because you get a head start on the journey to true love. The truest and most vital love to a beautiful life is the love you have for yourself. Self-Love runs deeper than the ocean and sadly, not many people will ever get past the surface (pun intended). Some people will remain shallow and think their beauty is only visible if others can see it and confirm it, like I used to.

See it as a blessing. You have no choice but to explore and discover the other ways you’re truly a beautiful, celestial, magical being.

One thing I want to leave you with is a piece of advice that I learned on this journey and I hope you can learn from. What I want you to know is that you don’t need to be beautiful to others to be beautiful.

People that don’t find you beautiful are not YOUR PEOPLE.

You will find your people when you learn to love every part of yourself. When you do, people with that same energy will start to be revealed to you. Just let life happen, but begin with accepting what you look like and learning what you have to offer to this world. Take a look at exactly what you have to offer in this moment right now! Create, work hard and love what you do. THAT is the secret!
